Upcoming in May

May 2nd: More Than One Side: Every story has more than one side. But, often we get fixated on just one side. Is there danger in only telling one side to the story? Rev. Laura Thompson
May 9th: A Good Time for the Truth: Our guest speaker will be David Lawrence Grant, who has written major reports on racial bias in the justice system for the Minnesota Supreme Court and on racial disparities in the healthcare system for the Minnesota legislature. Mr. Grant’s essay, “People Like Us” was published in the book A Good Time for the Truth, one of the book discussion classes offered at MVUUF in January, 2021. Fran Bohlke and Linda Hayen are co-hosting the service.
May 16th: Our Story: Celebrating a Year: As a prelude to our annual meeting we’ll take some time to reflect on this historical and unprecedented year. Join us to celebrate our accomplishments and imagine where the story leads from here.
May 23rd: Storytelling: Children’s Sunday: Maria Bavier and MVUUF children lead this service, rich with stories, poems and music.
May 30th: Memorial Sunday: Every Name Tells a Story: As we take time to honor those who have lost their lives in service to this country, we make space to remember that every life had a name and a story. Rev. Laura Thompson

Our service will include our projected need for next year alongside reflection on why supporting MVUUF is vital. Music from Mark Lofgren. A potluck and stewardship caucus event is planned for after the service. Bring a dish to share! Childcare provided.

Healing Minnesota Stories with Jim Bear Jacobs (click on “Past Sermons” link above)

Sunday March 1, 2020 - Jim Bear Jacobs

Healing Minnesota Stories is an effort to create understanding and healing between Native American and non-Native people. Native people have suffered deep trauma over many years, losing their land, language, and culture, and all who call Minnesota home are the lesser for it. While many people and institutions contributed to that trauma, it happened with the full participation of many churches. We all still need healing and faith communities have a role to play in healing. With music from Lark Lewis. A book making activity will be provided in the vestibule area and in the conference room for folks wanting to keep their hands active. The nursery will be expanded to accommodate children ages 5 and under.
